Mandarin is the fruit of the different species of citrus commonly called mandarin, including Citrus reticulata, Citrus unshiu, Citrus reshni, as well as their hybrids. It belongs to the group of fruits called hesperidia and its pulp is formed by a considerable number of segments full of juice, which contains a lot of vitamin C, flavonoids and essential oils.
It is the citrus more similar to orange, although smaller, with more aromatic flavor; and in most varieties, it is easier to peel. As well, it has a slightly lower acidity and a higher proportion of simple sugars. These properties make it considered an easy-to-eat natural treat for young and old people.
